La construction de la station de recherche sur la faune marine pour Environnement Canada se démarque par son implantation. Le projet, érigé le long de la plage longeant la rivière Eclipse Sound a été conçu pour offrir des vues vers le paysage exceptionnel de l’île Bylot. Le bâtiment comprend deux fonctions principales, un laboratoire de recherche ainsi qu’un studio d’habitation.
L’intégration des fonctions dans un volume simple a permis de créer des espaces intérieurs aérés par la hauteur des plafonds, mais également de répondre à la topographie du terrain.
Built on a beach of the Eclipse Sound River, the Marine Wildlife Research Station sits on a spectacular site overlooking Bylot Island. This Environment Canada building serves as a research laboratory and a live-in studio.
Integrating both functions in a single structure made it possible to create higher — more pleasant — volumes and make maximum use of the site’s topography.
